Meredith’s Boudoir Experience
When I asked Meredith to write about her boudoir shoot experience with me, she quickly responded with a “YES!”. Here is her story, written by Meredith herself.
“The last time I did a photoshoot was around 10 years ago at the age of 42. Since then, my body has gone through many changes due to age and stress. In 2016 I moved back to Colorado. That was when I met Becky, the owner and photographer of Black Forest Photography.
One evening she was over my house having dinner. That was when I found out what she did for work. Imagine that, a photographer! I was quite excited when I found out. So, I showed her my portfolio book from years ago when I was a teen. Plus, some pictures from other photographers over the years I had worked with. At the time, Becky asked me if I’d be interested in doing a Boudoir photoshoot.
I did not know what a boudoir photoshoot was. All these years I had helped other friends out with photoshoots and I did not know what that was. She showed pictures of her photography work and I was impressed.
I told her when I lose weight, and get in better shape you are the one I want to do another photoshoot with, but right now I can’t. I’m out of practice. I’ve gained weight. I feel sloppy. I don’t have the time. Eight years before when I did the last photo shoot I had put myself on a high pedestal. See, I had been lifting weights, doing 2 hours of cardio a day, and eating clean. Since then I went through a divorce, never picked up a weight again and my eating, drinking became out of control. Therefore, when she asked me about doing another photo shoot I made excuses. Therefore, 2016 turned into 2021. Five years passed quickly.
Back to the present, Becky once again asked if I would still be interested in doing the shoot. At this point, I’m 51 years old. Not much had changed with me. In fact, I was older. Yikes!
I once again looked at her website. On and off I frequented Becky’s Facebook boudoir group. I saw the motivational links and inspiring words she would write while I was stuck on the couch mending a broken leg. That was it! I said, “I’m not getting any younger. It’s now or never.”
We planned a day. She explained what I would need. My exactment grew by the collaborative way of bounced ideas back and forth. Picture day arrived.
I appreciated that when I arrived with several outfits, my jewelry and comfy clothes, Becky already had a makeup artist and hair stylist. What a relief! I didn’t need to be worried about the perspiration going down my neck from nerves. We laughed, I relaxed. Laughter is the best cure for nerves. When the photoshoot was completed. I felt a real sense of worthiness. My instinct told me I think we nailed this photoshoot. I was so pumped up!
A couple weeks later I went back to Becky’s studio. We went over the photos. The editing was right on! I had a difficult time choosing. Really, I wanted all of the photos! I tell ya, you know you’ve got a great photographer when you can’t decide. I’m happy Becky did not give up on me and my insecurities. Sometimes all it takes is just a little nudge to get the wheels turning. I dare you to open yourself up, let go of your fears and see what you find. You never know what could happen.
